FEATURED POST

March and April Update. March was a very slow month for fishing - I had just started working for a new company and early starts meant it was very hard to do quick sessions overnight and, as it was freezing cold, I didn’t fancy the 5am pack away. The syndicate was fishing fairly well for a few anglers which made it hard to stay away, but I was just waiting for the evenings to get lighter so I could have a few sessions after work for a few hours. That said, I did have a 3 night social over easter weekend with my dad and my godfather which was a frustrating session on the brightlingsea fishery main lake. After baiting a few areas during the week I rushed down there after work on the Thursday and, to my despair, the swims I had baited already had anglers installed in them for the whole weekend. I was gutted the weather had swung round again and over the weekend it didn’t get much above 7 degress so it was fairly uncomfortable, but the social continued and my godfather stru...

Bait Talk - Spring Edition

Image
I’ve been saying it in every post since I started my page that I was going to do a post all about bait…and here it is! As I’m writing this it’s snowing outside, and although this week’s going to be on the chilly side (going down too -7 tonight) and most lakes around the country will be starting to freeze over, spring is just around the corner and the days when we have sun it’s starting to feel stronger and has a bit more heat to it. I am going to start off talking about my baiting approach for spring; my baiting changes with the seasons in order to maximise my chances of landing a few fish. I’ll also add my approach may change with the distance I have to travel to the lake - that m ay sound completely mad, but, as my current syndicate is just a minute away from my house, it makes baiting (and picking the right times to bait) very easy as I can walk around as much as I like. Picking the right times to bait at this time of year can give as big of an edge as anything el...

February Update

February Update Well after a great start to the month with that lovely 18lb mirror things really did slow up. I was getting to the lake at least one night a week as normal, but I just couldn’t seem to get onto the fish - they seemed to disappear though I think that was mainly down to the cold weather. The temperature really dropped over the course of a week or so and the fish were really affected. I spent a couple of nights fishing a few different areas of the lake using the same tactics as before - choddies or hinge stiff rigs as I was fishing the weedy swims to see if that’s where they were finding sanctuary, but nothing was happening. I lost a race to a swim one Monday which I really went to regret as one of the locals was walking around the lake earlier in the day and he had seen fish showing close in. The wind was pushing into the corner and the weather was set to get really cold that night so as this area was in the shallows and I didn’t think the fish would ...
